Tattoos and Holiness

The Question:  Should Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, as a Christian man, have tattoos?

Having tattoos would not keep him from heaven.  Given Mr. Hegseth ended up going through Sanctification, and coming closer to God, he may end up hating some poor life decisions, to include choosing to be tattooed.

“’Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.  (Leviticus 19:28)

The pagan peoples around Israel, they may have had tattoos.  Given you were to ask a Jewish Rabbi about Leviticus 19:28, he may have said something like "God's people were to be holy and different from the pagans around them."  That would not be wrong.

  • Man is holy, made in the image of God.  What man does reflects.

I was watching a Youtube video the other day of a Palestinian man eating an Israeli flag cake.  He made a vanilla cake, or something, and it had an Israeli flag decorated on it.  The Palestinian man, and his kids, would take handfuls of the cake and eat it.  Why?  Man is made in the image of God, the spiritual is a reflection.   This was there attempt at some sorcery.  In similar way, a sorcerer in the Old Testament, or even in 2025, he may have had some particular marking or tattoos.  Why?  Man is made in the image of God.  The Spiritual is a reflection.

In Scotland, there were Woad Warrior like in the movie "Braveheart."  They had special war paints.  That may be like the Native Americans having special magic or medicine with their war paints.  Did said war paints given a man "luck," or special powers during battle?  Man is made in the image of God.  The Spiritual is a reflection.  Some pagans had a lot of tattoos.  That was part of their magic.

A Demon-Possessed Man Healed

5 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the [a]Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind [b]him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.  (Mark 5:1-5)

In general, in 1960, only sailors and prisoners had tattoos.  Sailors were known for going from shore to shore and engaging with prostitutes.  The Counter Culture and the sexual revolution happened.  Many people prostituted themselves.  The Counter Culture became mainstreamed into mainstream culture.  Tattooing did as well.  There is a spirit there.

A Christian looking to have a tattoo, that may have started due to a 15-17 year old seeing older men he respected with tattoos?  Something like that could be a slippery slope into some ugly things.  Does he get addicted to "Body enhancement" and sin?  Man is special, made in the image of God.  Why does a man need to improve himself?

As Christianity spread in Pagan Rome, many pagan people who had been tattooed, they converted.   Tattoos won't keep you from heaven.  As a society, as a Body of Christ looking to be Holy and perfect and closer to God, a Christian would never have a tattoo, or allow his children to follow into that foolishness.

  1. Question: A man's wife has a butterfly tattoo on her foot or something. Should she have it removed?

Are you coming closer to God, as a couple, in sanctification? Part of learning to talk to God may be a gut feeling. Someone is intuitive or perceptive. How do you feel about it as a married couple? It may be a good idea to remove said tattoo.

Fr Ripperger, an Exorcist, with free lectures on Youtube, he has been a good source. In one of his lectures, he explained that demons may have been bound or tied to a particular part of the body. Did a lot of females in sexual immorality end up with "Tramp Stamps," or tattoos on their lower backs? Was there a demon there?

  2. Question: Given someone was planning on getting a tattoo, read this, thought it wasn't "fair"....and decided to get a tattoo anyway?

They would be in sin. They now know better.
Christianity has standards. Sin is missing the mark. Many people did not understand the standards or the standards were thrown into question and whittled away at for generations. Now you know better.
