Israel is a Nation surrounded by enemies. Israel was instructed to make "No Entangling Alliances." Israel was to be a Holy Nation, separate from its neighbors. Men in Israel may have needed to Hold Tight to God or Cleave Unto. They would have to stay vigilant of enemies and threats.
In The New Testament, Christians separated themselves from their pagan neighbors. They formed their own communities. In Pagan Rome, all religion was more or less equal. Every nation or city state may have had its own personal or egotistical false gods. They were all pagans together. God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob is different. Christians in pagan Rome separated themselves. One of the biggest gripes of Pagan Romans was that Christians would not participate in their day to day rituals or holidays. When in Rome do as the Romans? Not for a Christian. Christians would need to Cleave unto God, and be vigilant.
In the Old Testament, Israel was not like other Nations. Israel had no King. God was their King. He ruled them through his Holy Spirit.....till they fell away. In falling away, Israel became oppressed by their neighbors. Eventually, Israel would cry out for God to help them. God would send them a Judge.
What may have happened to Christian Kingdoms given they were doing wrong, and not listening to God? There was the Viking Invasion of Britain. With the Viking Invasion of Britain, Christians became oppressed. They ended up with their back against a wall....or the sea. They had to hold tight to God.
Christian Eastern Rome had many close calls. There may have been invaders all the way up to the walls of Constantinople. The people there, they may have needed to repent, seek God, and hold tight to God.
In Christian Spain, the Muslims came. The Spanish Christians ended up with their backs against a wall....or the sea. They had to hold tight to God.
Cleave unto God. Be vigilant.
Prophecy. End Times. Growing in Faith. Who is God? What is God's character? How does God work in the world? How does someone lean on God? Learning some things that may or may not have been taught in Church, as well as seeing God's hand in current world events.

Don't argue. Don't try to be smart, and over think this. That would make you a smartass and a fool.
ReplyDeleteThere were a lot of complex things going on through Christian history. A foolish person may have been moralizing in secular humanism and liberalism. They have no standing. They disqualify themselves. You need to separate yourself from that wrong thinking.
Was someone looking to understand God or sit in judgement. Judge not lest ye be judged...like having a death sentence. I don't care what happens to you. Don't bring your bad thoughts in here.
How does someone separate themselves from bad thinking and bad ideology?
