Eros Love and God

God is love.  (1 John 4:8)  A lot of Christians talk of Agape love.  There are different types of love.  Eros love is today's topic.

Definition of Eros

2 : the sum of life-preserving instincts that are manifested as impulses to gratify basic needs, as sublimated impulses, and as impulses to protect and preserve the body and mind — compare death instinct

3 a : love conceived by Plato as a fundamental creative impulse having a sensual elementb often not capitalized : erotic love or desire (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Eros)

The Song of Songs is a said to be in the Bible as a representation of God's love for Israel or the Church. Harlotry has been an ongoing theme in the Bible. God is a jealous God. He is angered by sin. Idolatry and adulatory in English are similar words for a reason. Israel and Judah were like two sisters God married. They prostituted themselves with foreign gods and foreign nations. (Ezekiel 23) God cast them out into the nations. In Revelations 17, there is a great prostitute poisoning the nations with her wine.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25)

The Church is said to be a Bride for Christ. Jesus Christ a Bridegroom looking for a Bride. For Bible study, someone may need The Parable of the 10 Virgins and the Parable of the Wedding Feast. (Matthew 25)(Matthew 22:1-22)

8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.1 John 4:8

13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.John 15:13

Reason and Judgement are tied to Thumos.  What is beautiful and what is worth fighting for? A man's Body is a Temple. Jesus dwells in a man through his Holy Spirit. God is long suffering. Someone may learn to hear from God through trials and/or Acts of Fortitude such as fasting. A man growing in Faith may learn to feel God's Righteous Anger. God is Holy and Separate from sin. That is logos.

How does a man love God? He loves God with his heart and soul. God's plan is The Kingdom of God. A man works to align his will with God's will. To let go of ego, and allow in the Spirit of God in a big way. Someone learning to talk to God may be intuitive, like a fire in the belly or trusting your gut. Growing in Faith, a man may learn to Perceive through The Spirit of God.

Eros is tied to The Spirit of God. Why? God is love. What type of love? Fatherly love. God is a creator, and he knows how someone works. Someone growing in a relationship with God is cleaved unto God. A man is cleaved unto his wife in the King James. Concordance Link: "Cleave"

This is a complex subject matter. I may be able to explain all of it, but there is a danger is explaining it to someone who is not ready or of the spirit of God. The danger being definition 2 of eros love, and how it works in a realistic way with God. I hope you learned something.

Addendum -

It is the death instinct I would put draw your attention to.  Pharaoh wanted to kill Moses.  The King of Judah wanted to kill Jesus.   Many of the prophets of the Bible, someone wanted to kill them.

The son of man came eating and drinking.  (Matthew 11:19)

This gets into, or is related to, some advanced psychology type things associated with Dr. Jordan Peterson and some of his peers.

Question:  What does God's Eros love feel like?

I am not 100% sure how much of this is something just any Christian may have.  As a sinful man, a prodigal son prior to God, I felt a certain way.  I felt normal.  At some point, there was an energy from below the belt that ended up in my heart.  It shifted.  I could feel the shift.  I could still be married.  I could still function as a man.  There was a shift.  There was also a shift in perceptions.  Does a man think with his genitals?  I was not thinking with my genitals any longer.

A man's body is a temple.  I may have, at times, been seeing the world differently, more as God sees it.  God would give me particular "sight" at times.  Looking at girls or women, I saw the beauty of his creation regardless of whom they were.  Also, aware of demons and their evil.  This a sight that came and went or comes and goes.  It hasn't been with me or on me 24/7.  Short periods of time.  I don't control it.

I suppose there has been a variety of interesting supernatural sensations a lot of people don't have an understanding of.

I became, at some point, very aware of my heart.  Guard your heart.  Evil things liked to try and sneak in there.  I would say "Not in my heart," and sigh something out if it was in there.

Question: Would a man have actual romantic feelings for Israel or the Church?

No.  That would be weird.  Although, someone like Thomas Aquinas was said to have experienced the ecstasies taking the Eucharist.  That may be close to something.

-  God through Prophet Ezekiel, he gave some hard prophecy about Israel or Jerusalem as a God's wife who committed adultery.  Ezekiel, he loved his wife.  God took Ezekiel's wife in Ezekiel 24.

- In the same understanding as Prophet Ezekiel, God had Hosea marry a prostitute.  This was to show to Israel that he would never completely abandon them.

- A man and wife in marriage, they may be able to grow in faith with each other, and learn things about God and creation given they have the right frame of mind.  (1 Corinthians 11:3)

Jesus started his ministry around the age of 30.  (Luke 3:23)  We don't know much about Jesus' life between age 6 and age 30.  We do know that he had a lot of adventures.  (John 21:25)  Did Jesus court a Jewish Princess looking to marry her? If he married her, he may have been close to being a Physical King of the Jews and not just Spiritual?  It makes sense to me.  It fits like a puzzle piece.  It may have had something to do with the marriage John the Baptist was rebuking where he lost his head.

Question:  Were you looking to marry someone?

I did a series of blogs or testimony on here titled "A Bridegroom."
